To my mother on the 2nd anniversary of her death

Dear Mom,

When I look at the pictures I took on my camera of us in Kaiser, how did I ever know it would all end? You with your faded top knot of enlightenment smiling awkwardly into the camera, but in hindsight it is as if the camera could catch that there was so much more you were not saying. I tear up and cry invisible tears that won't come out when I think of those last few weeks. How perverse when I close my eyes I am magically, horribly transported back to that last week of your life in 2008.
